Letter from our President
Dear DWCAC Friends:
We had a wonderful turnout for our 10th Annual Women’s History Month Brunch! Florida House Representatives Yvonne Hinson and Angela Nixon were fabulous speakers who gave us so much to think about. Kendra Vincent spoke about abortion rights and where we are going from here. Carolyn Turner sang a beautiful acapella rendition of America the Beautiful. We were so privileged to have such great participants, speakers and performers. Many thanks for all of you who attended!
Our next meeting is 11:30 AM on March 17th at Congregation B’nai Israel, located at 3830 NW 16th Boulevard. Veronica Robleto from the Rural Women’s Health Service will be discussing their program and Thomas Vu, our member and Alachua County School Board Member, will be talking about the Newberry Election. Steven Wetstein, DWCAC member, has asked that we continue to urge Congress to vote against penalizing the poor, elderly and middle class by cutting social welfare programs.
This was taken from an appeal from the NAACP:
On Tuesday night, President Donald Trump delivered a speech to a joint session of Congress and painted a bleak picture of his un-American nightmare. His dangerous ideas could harm the economy and his social policies threaten our civil liberties. Now, he wants to take public dollars and hand it over to his billionaire friends to make them richer.
In his speech, Trump claimed he wanted to “balance the federal budget.” But his administration and the congressmen who support him want to do that by gutting Social Security, Medicare, veterans’ benefits, and other essential safety net programs to fund tax breaks for the ultra wealthy. This is an outright attack on working families, seniors, and those who have served our country.
Congress must reject any un-American funding proposals.
The NAACP is calling for government funding that safeguards the well-being of all Americans, not just the wealthiest few. We need your voice to help stop these harmful cuts from happening.
Tell Congress: Reject the proposed government funding plan.
We must protect those who protect us, support those who support us, and sustain those who have sustained this nation. This is not about left or right — it’s about standing up for every American.
I believe that we must continue to contact our legislators every day!
