Letter from our President

Doris Harvey

Dear DWCAC Friends:

I hope that you are all doing well and beginning to enjoy the cooler weather.   As I write this, I have just finished watching the Trump/Harris debate!  Kamala won the debate tonight. It wasn’t close. She made us so proud. She was strong, smart, confident, patriotic and Presidential. She is for the people. Trump sounded bat shit crazy. He was small, weak, and pathetic. The opposite of a leader, the opposite of a patriot.  It is incredible to me that Harris and Trump are running neck to neck in most states, and that in Florida, Trump remains ahead by two percentage points.  Hopefully, the American people will see what he is like from the debate!  Please take a couple of hours a week and do one thing to help Kamala Harris and Tim Walz win!  Trump and Vance will be a disaster for our Democracy.
The DWCAC is beginning to table at various events, libraries and other locations. Our Voter Engagement Team is working to cure ballots. Please  contact Marcia Storch at storchmarcia1965@gmail.com or Elaine Golman chava302@gmail.com to help with several projects.  Our local Democratic Executive Committee now has the Harris/Walz local coordinator, Nathaniel, hard at work getting people to canvas on Saturdays and Sundays with 2-3 hour shifts beginning at 9 AM and ending no later than 6 PM.  Nathaniel is also offering phone banking during the week.  The DEC is offering postcard writing on Thursday, September 12th from 6 to 9 PM and will cover the postage on these cards.  The DEC is covering the cost but must mail them from their office.  Gainesville Women for Harris is doing sign-waving each Saturday.  Go to the Gainesville Women for Harris site on Facebook to keep updated on their offerings.  There is so much to choose from in Alachua County that you can easily find a variety of offerings to do for Harris/Walz.  We can win in Florida but we must get out the vote.  Choose to do what you can when you can.  It is now only 55 days until November 5th.!
The DWCAC is still offering a $25 reimbursement to the first 25 members who pay for their seat at the Alachua County Democratic Party Lawton Chiles Gala on September 29th.  You do need to pay the individual price of $125 and then we will reimburse you the $25.  We will have 2-3 tables set aside for seating of DWCAC members.  I hope that you will consider attending.
Our next meeting is this coming Monday, September 16th at 11:30 AM at Congregation B’nai Israel, located at 3830 NW 16th Blvd.  Susan Bottcher and Bobby Mermer will be discussing the city amendment to dismiss the GRU Authority Board and give GRU control back to our city. This is an important issue for our city and we all need to be aware of the implications.   Lunch is served for $10 but please reserve a lunch by contacting Marti McGuire no later than Saturday, Sept. 14th ay 5 PM at martimcguire@bellsouth.net.  If you choose to bring your own lunch, please honor rabbinic laws and do not bring in shellfish, chicken, beef or pork.  You can bring fish, cheese, eggs or any vegetables.   The agenda link is at the bottom with other links.
I am personally really looking forward to our quarterly dinner meeting on September 26th and I hope that many of you are planning to attend.  We have a great speaker, Janet Coats, who is going to talk with us about misinformation in the media and how we can identify it.  We are offering wonderful food again catered by Ibti with a variety of dishes, desserts and drinks.  The cost is $28 and must be paid in advance.  Please click on this link for the form, and follow the directions on it. or bring it to the Monday meeting and give it to Bonnie Baker with your payment.  It appears that we already have a great turnout and I look forward to seeing you there.

I think that this is all the news that is fit to print.

Yours in Solidarity with Democratic Values

P.S.

We are making a difference.
