SPECIAL PLEA

Attorney Jay Maggio is very active in Voter Protection and has sent this email requesting that we consider a stint during the election as a Poll Watcher.  I have done this yearly and it is an easy job, but a very important one. You only commit to a few hours one day.   His email address is jmaggio909@gmail.com.  Here is his plea for help:

Dear DWC folks,

The Alachua Democrats need volunteers for legally certified Poll Watchers to protect the vote in the August and November elections. You will literally be protecting the rights of voters in Democratic-heavy precincts. You do not need to be a lawyer. All you need is a decent mind and an honest desire to see everyone who has the right to vote, vote.

If you are not aware, a "poll watcher" is not a poll greeter (the folks who hand you slate cards). A "poll watcher" is not a poll worker, who works for--and gets paid by--the Supervisor of Elections ("SOE"). A poll watcher volunteers for a political party or a candidate--in this case you would be working for the Alachua Dems--and is legally allowed to observe ("watch") the polls from INSIDE the polling center.

You will get training to be an expert on casting votes and running poll centers. You then can solve many problems on your own, OR you can discuss it with a legal team of election law experts. Those lawyers can do anything from calling the SOE to filing for an injunction to help the voter.
We will be protecting early voting and election day in August and November.  So, I need people. I need a lot of them. You need to be a registered Democrat in Alachua County.

If interested, please email me back with ALL of this information:
Your full and proper name, Date of Birth, Residential Address (at which your voter reg is at now), and telephone number.

Help protect the vote.

In solidarity,
J. Maggio
